Cranberry Capsules Can Hold Off And Treat Infections

The symptoms of a bladder infection can often be uncomfortable and embarrassing. Whilst some of us may never experience a urinary tract infection (UTI), many people suffer from them on a regular basis. Poor hygiene practices and regular events are normally to blame for regular urinary tract infections. The shorter length of the urethra in women and their reproductive system makes them more susceptible to UTIs.

So Why do we get UTIs? Infections are usually caused from the top or the bottom. It is uncommon for older children and adults to suffer from infections that entered the body from the top though. Bacteria get into the urethra and can then travel up into the bladder, the ureter (linking the kidneys to the bladder) and even the kidneys if the infection remains undiagnosed for a long time. If the kidneys are left untreated they may begin to fail or the sufferer might develop seriously low blood pressure levels.

Bacteria can get into the urethra through the meatus for several reasons. In young children who wear nappies, stools can sit close to the meatus for extended lengths of time and as the child moves bacteria can get pushed into the urethra. Girls who wipe back-to-front are at greater risk of developing a UTI as any bacteria around the anus is moved towards the meatus. During sex there is a lot of friction on the meatus and this can also be a factor in UTIs.

These are the most common factor in UTIs although there are many others. If you have a UTI you may experience pain when you urinate, back and abdominal pain and blood in your urine. Unfortunately, some urine infections such as cystitis can have no symptoms at all which can lead to the long term problems described earlier.

Cranberry capsules are one of the best preventative and treatment remedies available without prescription, although some doctors will even recommend them to their patients depending on the severity and type of infection. The natural qualities of cranberries can reduce the discomfort felt from a UTI and help to kill off bacteria before it develops into an infection. If you are in extreme pain and you notice blood in your urine it is a good idea to visit your doctor as they will be able to point you towards the right course of treatment. If you regularly suffer from UTIs, why not start taking cranberry capsules, you might see a big difference.
